A trade sending wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. from Arizona to Houston placed him with the Texans following the conclusion of his time with the Cardinals. Arizona received a 2027 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick from Houston, with the Cardinals also sending back the 24-year-old wide receiver alongside a 2027 seventh-round selection.
Harrison Jr. was the fourth overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, chosen by Arizona. According to CBS Sports Research, no wide receiver had been traded within three seasons of being drafted in the top five prior to Harrison Jr. — whose father, Marvin Harrison, is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame — reaching that point, a distinction last associated with Ahmad Rashad in 1974. Rashad's tenure in Arizona ended via a trade that sent him to Buffalo, with quarterback Dennis Shaw moving in the opposite direction as the return piece.
Entering the late-afternoon slate of Week 5 games at 1-4, Houston's ground attack ranked last across the league in yards per carry at 3.0, while the team's per-game rushing output of 57.4 yards placed them second from the bottom leaguewide. Quarterback C.J. Stroud took the field under the stadium lights. Heading into Week 5's late-afternoon slate, Stroud's passing output averaged 280.4 yards per contest, placing him fourth across the league, while a touchdown-to-interception ratio of six touchdowns against zero interceptions put him in a tie for second among all quarterbacks.
According to CBS Sports Research, the 185 consecutive pass attempts Stroud completed without throwing an interception place him fourth on the all-time list for that stretch through a team's first four games in NFL history.
A second receiver acquisition arrived for the Texans in 2026 when safety Jaylen Reed and a 2028 seventh-round pick moved to New England in exchange for wide receiver Kayshon Boutte.
Stroud and Harrison Jr. lined up together on the Ohio State roster for two seasons spanning 2021 and 2022. The 14 receiving touchdowns Harrison Jr. accumulated with Stroud under center in 2022 rank alongside the third-highest single-season total recorded by a Buckeyes pass-catcher in program history. Across 77 receptions, 1,263 receiving yards, and 14 touchdown catches, Harrison Jr. matched or surpassed every personal receiving benchmark he had previously set during that 2022 campaign alongside Stroud.
Despite two Pro Bowl selections on Nico Collins's résumé, Houston's wide receiver room carried a notable void, one that Tank Dell's knee injury extended further. A knee injury Dell sustained in Week 16 of the 2024 season — involving a dislocated kneecap along with tears to the ACL, LCL, and MCL, plus meniscus damage — kept him off the field in every game since.
Over the stretch from 2024 onward, Harrison Jr. drew 202 targets in Arizona — a figure ranking third on the roster — and converted those opportunities into 108 receptions, 1,578 receiving yards, and 13 touchdown catches, though a consistent working rhythm with either Kyler Murray or Jacoby Brissett remained elusive throughout. Among Cardinals pass-catchers since his NFL debut, only tight end McBride with 362 targets and receiver Wilson with 241 drew more looks than Harrison Jr.
Among the assets Arizona received in the deal, one took the form of a 2027 NFL Draft selection in the second round. To move up one slot in the 2027 draft order, Arizona packaged Harrison Jr. and a seventh-round selection, receiving a sixth-round pick in return. Bound by the terms of his rookie contract, Harrison Jr. faces up to three additional seasons of team control, with the remainder of 2026 counting among them.
