Australia's Automated Aged Care Assessment Tool Under Review After Thousands Left Without Adequate Support
Australia's government has announced an independent review of its Support At Home Integrated Assessment Tool after widespread reports that the automated aged care system has left many older Australians with reduced support coverage. Sydney resident Karlene McCabe, whose partner has a brain tumour, launched a petition that gathered over 10,000 signatures after the couple's support tier was reduced by the automated system. The review will report to parliament by mid-2027, with new case review options available from January 2027. Lawmakers and advocacy groups have called for greater transparency and human oversight in the algorithm-based assessment process.
