Sony Pictures chose Bengaluru as the launch location on 15 October for the international trailer of Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana: Part 1, opening a worldwide promotional push behind Namit Malhotra's screen adaptation of the Indian epic.
Among those who attended the event were actors Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash, alongside host Ravi Dubey, music composer A. R. Rahman, and director Nitesh Tiwari, with several other cast and crew members also present. A preview screening of the film — hosted jointly by Prime Focus Studios and Yash's Monster Mind Creations ahead of its worldwide theatrical release — gave audiences an early look at the production before its broader public release.
Set against a fantasy backdrop, the international trailer organises its story around a conflict between opposing forces. The roughly two-and-a-half-minute trailer opens in an age when divine and mortal realms are portrayed as intertwined, with Kunal Kapoor cast in the role of Lord Indra.
Yash's depiction of Ravana draws the narrative's focus at this stage, with the character's vow that every head would bow before him establishing the adversarial tension driving the epic forward. Ranbir Kapoor's portrayal of Lord Rama depicts a virtuous man navigating an exceptional calling, with the role framed around a conflict that positions the character as a defender against a formidable adversarial force. One line delivered in the trailer captures Rama's stated determination — that without his intervention, the world faces destruction.
Glimpses of Sai Pallavi in the role of Sita carry the narrative's emotional weight, while sweeping battle sequences, ancient architectural settings, atmospheric terrain, and visual effects crafted by DNEG occupy much of the trailer's focus. Music for the trailer draws on work by both Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman, whose combined compositions lend a sweeping quality to how the epic is presented on screen.
Footage released ahead of the film's opening reveals how broadly its creators have drawn the narrative canvas, weaving a mythological backdrop together with fantasy elements built for theatrical spectacle. The production casts Ranbir Kapoor in the role of Lord Rama, with Sai Pallavi portraying Sita, Yash taking on Ravana, Sunny Deol embodying Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey stepping into the part of Lakshman.
The two-part saga, helmed by Nitesh Tiwari, takes shape through a production arrangement linking Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios, visual-effects house DNEG, and Yash's Monster Mind Creations. Sony Pictures holds the international distribution mandate — covering all territories outside India — and the release strategy is built around reaching viewers across multiple markets. Hindi-language audiences will be reached through a distribution arrangement handled by Dharma Productions.
Audiences across India will be able to watch the picture in IMAX format as well as in five regional languages — Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. A global theatrical run for Ramayana: Part 1 is scheduled for 5 November 2026, with a follow-up instalment set for a Diwali 2027 release.
