HCLTech posted quarterly earnings for the July-to-September period that cleared analyst expectations on both net profit and operating margins, though a number of brokerages retained reservations about the company's growth outlook, the performance of its software unit, and whether its current valuation premium was warranted.
Three brokerages — Kotak Securities, Citi, and JPMorgan — held bearish outlooks on the shares, though Kotak and Citi both nudged their price targets upward in response to the latest quarterly figures. Whether HCLTech can defend its recently strengthened margins without letting revenue momentum slip through the second half of FY27 is a question analysts are tracking closely. Adjusted organic revenue growth projections and the prospect of higher wage-driven costs stand alongside services revenue and deal bookings as variables that shareholders and analysts will track going forward.
A 'Reduce' rating on HCLTech shares remained in place at Kotak Securities, though the brokerage nudged its valuation target upward to Rs 1,220 from a prior figure of Rs 1,200. Margin performance across the July-to-September period drew positive attention from the brokerage, though its products division was identified as an area of underperformance. Revenue from services expanded at a pace sufficient to cushion a dip in product sales, though Kotak held back from endorsing the company's current valuation.
HCLTech's FY27 organic revenue growth target was also flagged by Kotak, with the band narrowed from an earlier 1%–4% range to a tightened 1.6%–3.1% forecast. Deal bookings climbed, driven in part by large-scale transactions, pointing toward a stronger pipeline for revenue to materialise at a later stage.
A revised price objective of Rs 1,050 — up from the previous Rs 1,030 — accompanied Citi's decision to hold its bearish stance on HCLTech. Earnings before interest and taxes for the three months to September came in ahead of analyst forecasts, a result the brokerage characterised as a solid quarterly performance. Results from the software division fell short of expectations, while the forward guidance on services revenue pointed toward a deceleration in growth across the back half of FY27.
In a note to investors, Citi relayed that the company's leadership expressed confidence in achieving services expansion at a pace landing just above the midpoint of its forecast band. Citi also flagged in a research note that HCLTech's valuation carries a 20%–25% markup over those of comparable IT players Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys.
An 'Underweight' stance on HCLTech shares, paired with a price target set at Rs 1,080, remained in place at JPMorgan. A modest pullback at the midpoint of the company's organic revenue growth target range drew attention from the brokerage as a potential indicator that expansion was losing pace. Salary increases are forecast to weigh on margins by roughly 140 basis points during the back half of FY27, according to JPMorgan's projections.
For the July-to-September period, HCLTech posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 5,132 crore, reflecting an approximately 11% rise from the Rs 4,624 crore recorded in the three months immediately prior. Analysts had pencilled in a net profit of Rs 4,875 crore, a threshold the reported figure cleared. Revenue for the period reached Rs 35,620 crore, edging up from the Rs 34,579 crore posted in the previous quarter and landing within a narrow margin of the Rs 35,547 crore that market analysts had projected.
Posting a quarter-on-quarter gain of 10.9%, EBIT for the period reached Rs 6,465 crore — up from Rs 5,831 crore recorded in the three months through June and ahead of the Rs 6,243 crore that analysts had projected. Profitability at the operating level reached 18.1%, up from 16.7% the prior quarter and ahead of the 17.56% analysts had pencilled in. On a constant-currency basis, the company's top line edged up 2.3% from the prior quarter, with the services segment posting a stronger 3.4% uptick over the same period.
Quarter-on-quarter, the Advanced AI division posted $219 million in revenue — a gain of 28.4% over the preceding three-month period. Contracts signed with new clients across the quarter totalled $3.26 billion in combined value. A batch of 6,136 new recruits joined HCLTech's workforce, pushing the company's total headcount to around 2.3 lakh.
Workforce turnover landed at 12.8% for the quarter, edging up a tenth of a percentage point from the 12.7% recorded in the period before it. A second interim payout of Rs 12 per share has been approved, with shareholders of record as of October 16, 2026 standing to receive the funds by October 26 of that year.
Kotak Securities, Citi, and JPMorgan each held their bearish stances — Reduce, Sell, and Underweight respectively — even after the company posted quarterly results that came in ahead of expectations. Analyst valuations for the stock place the price objective in a range between Rs 1,050 and Rs 1,220. How well HCLTech can convert its recently contracted business and services-side traction into sustained organic revenue growth — while keeping profit margins intact through the latter portion of FY27 — remains an open question for investors weighing the stock's trajectory.
