White House Weighs Red-Dyed Diesel Access as States Act to Address Rising Fuel Costs
The White House is evaluating a plan to expand access to red-dyed diesel fuel as an alternative to a diesel export ban, amid record-high diesel prices in the United States. Red-dyed diesel, traditionally reserved for off-road and agricultural use and exempt from federal highway fuel taxes, could provide cost relief to farmers, truckers, and other diesel-dependent industries. Louisiana and Texas have already issued emergency orders allowing expanded use of the fuel during harvest season. Energy analysts note the measure could reduce diesel costs by approximately 4 to 6 percent through tax relief, though it would not address the underlying global supply factors driving record prices.
