Vice President Pays Tribute to Music Composer Deva Following His Passing

Vice President C P Radhakrishnan expressed grief over the passing of music composer Deva, who composed music for over 400 films across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada cinema. The Vice President noted Deva's unique musical style and his distinctive contributions to the "gaana" genre, stating his work would be cherished by future generations.

Paying tribute on Saturday to the late music composer Deva, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan spoke of the body of work Deva had built across Tamil films and Indian cinema more broadly. The vice president's condolence statement described Deva as having built a recognisable artistic voice through an approach to music — particularly his "gaana" compositions — that, in the vice president's view, drew from the everyday experiences and feelings of common people. His compositional output stretched across more than 400 film productions spanning the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada industries. Radhakrishnan expressed the view that the composer's body of work in the gaana tradition — along with the distinctive qualities that shaped it — would endure as a source of appreciation among music audiences across future generations.
