Mahesh Tinaikar, a founding member and guitarist of Indian rock band Rock Machine — later renamed Indus Creed — passed away on October 15, 2024, at the age of 63 following a heart attack. Tinaikar co-founded Rock Machine in 1984 alongside vocalist Uday Benegal, keyboardist Zubin Balaporia, bassist Mark Selwyn, guitarist Jayesh Gandhi, and drummer Mark Menezes. The band is widely recognized as one of India's earliest and most influential rock acts. Tributes were shared by filmmaker Farhan Akhtar, musician Vishal Dadlani, and several other figures from the Indian entertainment and music industry.

Messages of condolence from Farhan Akhtar, the filmmaker, and Vishal Dadlani, the musician, were among the many voices in the entertainment and music industries that gathered in response to the guitarist's passing after his years of service to the craft. Akhtar shared a monochrome image of Tinaikar on Instagram with the caption "RIP brother #maheshtinaikar," while Dadlani paid his own tribute, describing Tinaikar as someone whose influence had shaped generation after generation of rock musicians throughout India. Tinaikar and his bandmates received credit from him as artists who helped push Indian rock music into wider view, with the performer also reflecting on the time he shared a stage with Indus Creed. His contributions within that group helped shape the path along which rock music spread and took hold throughout India.
