Trump Demands Apology from LeBron James Over National Anthem Conduct

Former President Donald Trump posted a statement on Truth Social demanding an apology from NBA star LeBron James after a video showed James performing warm-up drills during the national anthem at the Philadelphia 76ers' season opener against the New York Knicks. The incident divided public opinion and reignited broader debates about athlete conduct, patriotism, and the standards expected of professional sports figures during national ceremonies.

Posting through his Truth Social platform while out of office, Trump called on NBA player LeBron James to issue a formal apology after video spread showing James completing pre-game warm-up routines as the national anthem played before a Philadelphia 76ers season opener. On Truth Social, Trump contended that LeBron James had disrespected the United States by failing to follow proper protocol when the National Anthem was performed. He maintained that this position had been his from the beginning, describing James as unfit for the role and calling the conduct a complete embarrassment, while also calling on James — as a prominent figure in the NBA — to deliver a public apology to military personnel and veterans who lost their lives in service, a standard Trump contended someone of James's standing in professional basketball was expected to uphold.
