Supreme Court Orders Removal of Delhi Barricades and Prohibitory Orders Amid Protest Crackdown
India's Supreme Court held an emergency Sunday hearing and ordered authorities to immediately remove barricades, lift prohibitory orders under Section 163 BNSS near the court complex, and restore railway, metro, and traffic movement in New Delhi. The bench of Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana ruled that access to justice must remain unhindered and that peaceful citizens must not face illegal detention. The hearing addressed petitions related to the detention of demonstrators by Delhi Police and paramilitary forces during protests on October 10, as well as a contempt plea. Congress leader Ashok Gehlot and the SCAORA also responded to the court's intervention.
