South Korea Plans Cybersecurity Overhaul for Financial Sector After Crypto Exchange Incidents
South Korea's Financial Services Commission is proposing tighter cybersecurity rules for financial institutions after an industry-wide review found deficiencies at 130 of 555 financial firms. Around 100,000 customer records were exposed. Crypto exchanges Gopax and Prabang were among the affected companies. Proposed measures include twice-yearly vulnerability assessments for larger institutions, enhanced information sharing, executive accountability, and possible AI-assisted monitoring for smaller firms.
