Shoppers Stop returned to profitable territory on a consolidated basis for the July–September quarter of FY27, posting a net after-tax gain of Rs 6 crore against the Rs 7 crore deficit recorded in the same three-month period of the prior fiscal year. Total consolidated revenue for the quarter reached Rs 1,618 crore, a 7% increase on the comparable prior-year figure.
A push toward higher-end product positioning, combined with a turnaround in the beauty division — where revenue climbed 18% year on year to reach Rs 367 crore — underpinned the broader recovery. Perfume revenue rose 35% over the period. High-value products accounted for nearly three-quarters of the company's revenue, reflecting a shift in purchasing patterns toward premium offerings.
Revenue from the department store segment reached Rs 1,302 crore, reflecting 7% like-for-like growth after adjusting for festive timing, while the value fashion arm INTUNE contributed Rs 72 crore and narrowed its operating losses by improving per-unit productivity.
The loyalty programme's First Citizen tier crossed 14 million members during the quarter, a figure bolstered by 40,000 new enrolments under the Black Card tier. Seven outlets spanning department and beauty retail formats were opened over the second quarter, supported by a capital outlay of Rs 39 crore.
Inventory reductions of Rs 78 crore and a Rs 82 crore decrease in net debt have placed Shoppers Stop on a trajectory the company says will leave it free of borrowings by the third quarter of FY27.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Kavindra Mishra said the retailer had delivered a solid quarter despite the festive season having shifted predominantly into the third quarter this year. Non-GAAP consolidated turnover rose 7% against the prior year to Rs 1,618 crore, while EBITDA expanded 56% over the same period to Rs 43 crore.
The company's consolidated profit after tax moved into positive territory at Rs 6 crore, reversing a Rs 7 crore deficit from the prior year, while standalone profit after tax shifted from a Rs 10 crore loss to a gain — outcomes the company attributed to operating leverage and the rollout of its Shoppers Stop 2.0 initiative. Revenue from the department store segment came in at Rs 1,302 crore, with like-for-like growth of 7% once festive-season timing is excluded, pointing to steady consumer activity in the underlying business.
Losses across the New Ventures segment narrowed by Rs 8 crore, a movement the company attributed to stronger output from INTUNE and the integration of SSBeauty.in into the SS.com platform. Management expressed an expectation that the segment will move closer to breakeven going forward.
Consumer buying activity that took hold across the first quarter carried into the second, supported by upbeat consumer confidence and steady activity around Rakshabandhan and Onam. Demand in key markets ahead of both the Pujo and Dussehra seasons pointed in a positive direction, the company said.
The company stated that its focus on premium offerings, in-store experiences, tighter stock management, and operational efficiency had drawn a positive response from buyers and, according to the company, is improving the overall quality of its growth. The company also stated its intention to manage capital with discipline, work toward stronger profitability, and clear its outstanding debt before the close of the third quarter.
