Saudi Arabia Issues Emergency Alert Over Reported Explosions Near Riyadh and Al-Kharj

Saudi Arabia's Civil Defence issued emergency alerts for Riyadh and Al-Kharj early Saturday following reports of explosions. The warnings were subsequently lifted. Online claims attributed the incident to a Houthi ballistic missile attack, but these claims remained unverified by official sources. The incident comes amid a broader pattern of Houthi attacks on Saudi territory, including recent strikes on energy infrastructure, and growing disruptions to key regional shipping routes.

Unconfirmed claims circulating on social media linked the event to Ansarullah — also known as the Houthi movement — alleging that the group had launched a large ballistic missile attack targeting Saudi Arabia. Saudi authorities confirmed the warnings and subsequent all-clear announcements but did not publicly identify the source of the explosions as a ballistic missile fired by Houthi fighters. The news organisation aired a statement that the threat had passed without independently corroborating the missile-related claims underpinning it. Attacks attributed to Houthi forces earlier that month resulted in injuries to 73 people and disrupted operations at several energy facilities, Saudi authorities reported. Local authorities have advised residents across both cities that the danger has passed.
