Russia to Close German Cultural Centers Following Airport Drone Plot Accusation
Russia announced the closure of German Goethe-Institut cultural centers in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg following Germany's decision to shut down Russian diplomatic and cultural facilities. The move comes after Berlin blamed Moscow for an attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport on Aug. 4, where an explosive-laden drone was found near a Ukrainian plane. European Union ministers discussed response measures including sanctions and visa restrictions. Germany stated it had carefully prepared its response while calling on Russia to engage in reasonable negotiations regarding Ukraine.
