Rapper Honey Singh Questioned by Maharashtra Cyber Cell Over Concert Remarks

Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh appeared before the Maharashtra Cyber Cell on October 16 and was questioned for approximately two hours over alleged objectionable remarks made at a concert. He had missed three prior summons before attending. A Delhi High Court bench had separately described one of his songs as vulgar and derogatory toward women. The investigation remains ongoing.

Hirdesh Singh, who performs and produces music under the name Yo Yo Honey Singh, made his way to the Maharashtra Cyber Cell on that Friday, the 16th of October. Police took him in for questioning over remarks he had made at a concert that were deemed objectionable. Following roughly two hours spent providing his statement, he departed the premises with a security detail in place. The singer had previously put in a request to the Cyber Cell to push the appearance date to 22 October, ANI reported. His request met with a flat no from the agency, which directed him to appear on the date originally scheduled. A formal summons arose from a complaint lodged by an individual who took issue with statements the rapper purportedly delivered during a live performance. Maharashtra Cyber took up the complaint and directed him to present himself for an interview with investigators. No further details had been released as of the time of reporting, with those responsible for the inquiry indicating that the process remained ongoing. Maharashtra Cyber officials report that Honey Singh had not presented himself for questioning despite three separate summons being issued to him. According to available accounts, his stated reason for not attending was that he was outside the country at the time. A request to extend the timeline had also been put forward by him, coming on the heels of his non-appearance at the questioning session that had been set for 5 October. An official from Maharashtra Cyber's senior ranks put the individual on notice that non-appearance at the latest summons could set in motion the steps needed to place a Look Out Circular on record against him. According to those briefings, he faced a further round of questioning. At an April 2 hearing, the Delhi High Court bench characterised the song in question as deeply offensive toward women, describing its content as obscene and its portrayal of women as reduced to sexual objects. Panwar, appearing as advocate, told the court that the audio track circulates freely across social media and remains accessible to minors, raising concerns about the effect on younger users. Her position was that the content ought to be taken down without delay from social media platforms, YouTube, and any other sites where it could be shared. A submission before the court noted that two lines from the song were performed by Honey Singh during a live appearance at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on 1 March 2025.
