A telephone call between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump on Friday touched on pathways toward ending the conflict in Ukraine, according to a statement from the Kremlin. Russia's willingness to direct oil and petroleum products toward both American and international markets was reiterated in a Kremlin statement, while Putin, in remarks attributed to him, expressed the view that such trade flows would carry broader benefits for the world economy. Iran's place in the agenda joined a wider review of how the two sides' relationship stood across multiple fronts. Both sides pledged to keep direct lines open between their heads of state while sustaining working ties across their administrations, intelligence bodies, and other relevant agencies. Trump separately confirmed the call through a post on Truth Social, in which he stated that the conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin had concluded and that an arrangement had been reached for Russia to provide more than 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to markets in the United States and globally, with a further 500,000 tons to follow during November and an additional one million tons thereafter, along with a subsequent delivery of three million tons tied to the assessed state of Russia's diesel refining infrastructure. Assurances from Trump pointed to those additional supplies as a pathway toward faster relief in worldwide diesel costs.
