Sahibzada Farhan has been named captain of Pakistan's Twenty20 side for a three-match home series against Sri Lanka, taking over from Salman Ali Agha, who was removed from the role. Farhan claimed a silver medal at the Asian Games after Pakistan lost Sunday's final to India.
Hasan Nawaz, a batter, and pace bowler Naseem Shah have both been recalled to the T20 setup. Nawaz, who had been dropped from the squad after November, returned for the Asian Games final and compiled 96 before being dismissed off the last delivery, with Pakistan falling short by 19 runs. His most recent appearance in the Twenty20 international format came during the T20 World Cup held in February. He was also selected for the one-day international squad that will contest the upcoming tri-series against Sri Lanka and England.
Razaullah's performances during his Test appearance against England in Birmingham last month earned him places in both the T20 and ODI squads. No white-ball appearances have been recorded for him at this point in his career.
Shaheen Afridi retained the ODI captaincy, leading a side that also features Agha and Babar Azam. Rizwan was omitted from the squad after the wicketkeeper became the subject of a National Cyber Crime Investigation Authority inquiry. Rizwan was among the seven players recalled to Pakistan following the side's defeat in the second Test against England at Lord's that August.
Nafay held the wicketkeeping duties across the T20 matches, while Ghori — who had already made his Test debut on English soil — took the gloves for the ODI fixtures.
The three T20 matches between Pakistan and Sri Lanka are scheduled at Rawalpindi, running from 9 to 13 October. The opening day of the tri-series is set for 18 October.
Tait, who had previously served in a bowling coaching capacity with Bangladesh, was appointed to the same role within Pakistan's setup. Under Tait, Bangladesh handed Pakistan a 2-0 defeat in the Test series. Tait stepped in to fill the role vacated by Noffke, who had taken up a contract with the Netherlands.
