New York City Mayor and Democratic Leaders Ask Private Parking Lots to Deny Access to ICE
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, joined by more than 100 Democratic elected officials including Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries, sent a formal letter to private parking lot owners asking them to deny access to ICE for use as staging areas during immigration enforcement operations. The request follows an ICE-involved shooting of Oscar Belgal in the Marble Hill neighborhood, which occurred while his 5-year-old son was in the vehicle. The Department of Homeland Security responded by stating that restricting parking access would not prevent ICE from conducting operations in the city.
