Josh Jacobs Removed from Commissioner Exempt List, Eligible to Play October 25

The NFL announced that Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs will be removed from the commissioner exempt list on Monday, making him eligible to play on October 25 against the Detroit Lions. Jacobs has missed five games after being placed on the list on August 30 following his arrest in May and a subsequent no contest plea to misdemeanor charges. The league's personal conduct policy review of Jacobs continues independently.

Jacobs, who plays running back for the Green Bay Packers, has been cleared from the commissioner exempt list and will return to the field Oct. 25, when the Packers travel to face the Detroit Lions. On Monday, a league announcement confirmed Jacobs would be taken off the list, with the news released the previous Friday. Jacobs's roster status has been updated, but that adjustment carries no bearing on the league's ongoing review of him. Sidelined through the Packers' opening five contests, Jacobs remains unavailable for Sunday night's home encounter against the Dallas Cowboys at Lambeau Field. A review of Jacobs's conduct under the NFL's personal conduct policy was opened following his arrest in May, which stemmed from an incident involving his then-girlfriend. A no-contest plea to two misdemeanor counts — battery and criminal damage to property — was entered by Jacobs in the preceding month. A commissioner's exempt-list designation reached him on Aug. 30, arriving in the days that followed the filing of formal charges. Placement on the commissioner's exempt list kept him away from both practices and games, despite three Pro Bowl appearances to his name. Salary obligations toward athletes placed on the commissioner's exempt list remain in effect throughout that designation. With club approval and at the player's request, access to team facilities is available on a reasonable basis for meetings, individual workouts, therapy and rehabilitation, and other non-football activities permitted under the agreement.
