In a statement released by the Philadelphia Eagles, the team noted that quarterback Jalen Hurts came to the training room following practice on October 8th seeking attention for a calf issue. During the Rams game on October 4th, he had told medical personnel that a cleat had made contact with him.
Hurts received treatment on the calf for the first time after that game, having gone through full practice on both Wednesday and Thursday beforehand. He then completed a full practice session on Friday and received medical attention that day, with his name subsequently appearing on the injury report.
After the squad flew to London and completed a walkthrough on Saturday, team medical staff carried out an ultrasound as a precautionary measure. Imaging detected a clot sitting close to the surface of a vein.
A team of physicians and medical personnel based in London examined the findings and determined that keeping active and maintaining movement posed no risk for Hurts, clearing him to take part. Medical recommendations included a follow-up ultrasound within 72 hours of both the game and the return flight to Philadelphia.
Hurts took part in Sunday's contest without any restriction, underwent treatment across Monday and Tuesday, and logged a full practice session Wednesday, as the practice report confirmed. The team noted that contact with the league office had been maintained across the London trip and into the current week, and that a follow-up ultrasound conducted on Wednesday evening detected movement within the small blood clot.
Hurts has been ruled out of Sunday's matchup against the Panthers while the medical staff works to establish the appropriate path forward for his recovery. "His health and safety are our top concern," the team stated.
Hurts, who turned 28 this year, entered the Eagles organisation as a second-round selection out of Oklahoma in the 2020 draft. A four-year deal worth $6,025,171 in total value — anchored by a $1,941,943 signing bonus — was put in place upon his entry into the league as a rookie.
Heading into what would have been the final year of his existing arrangement — a 2023 season carrying a $1.3 million base salary — Hurts instead locked in a five-year extension totalling $255 million before that original deal reached its end.
Through five Eagles outings in 2026, Hurts posted a 57.8 percent completion rate, throwing for 933 yards while recording eight touchdown passes against three interceptions. On the ground, he carried the ball 23 times, picking up 107 yards and finding the end zone once.
