Instacart Launches Fizz App for Collaborative Ordering
Instacart has introduced a new application called Fizz, designed to streamline the process of group ordering for snacks, drinks, and party supplies. The app allows users to collaboratively add items to a shared cart, with individual payment options for each participant, while maintaining a single delivery fee of $5. Hosts can create a cart that is accessible through a link, enabling guests to add their preferred items and see what others have chosen.
Fizz facilitates the ordering of various items such as chips, beverages, ice, and paper plates, ensuring all products are delivered together. Users clicking on a Fizz cart link are directed to the Fizz.com website, unless they have the app installed. According to Instacart's Chief Product Officer, Daniel Danker, the app is designed to be user-friendly, aiming to simplify group shopping without requiring app installation.
Participants only need to provide a phone number to use Fizz. Once all items are selected and payments are made, the host can complete the order and arrange for delivery. The host covers the $5 delivery fee, while guests have the option to tip the shopper. If alcohol is included in the order, the host must present identification upon delivery.
Danker points out that Fizz addresses the common practice of splitting bills after gatherings by allowing users to pay only for their contributions to the cart. The app utilizes Instacart's existing network of shoppers to fulfill orders, selecting the most suitable store based on proximity to the delivery address. Currently, Fizz does not support ordering from multiple stores simultaneously, but this feature is anticipated to be available soon, according to Danker.
Additionally, Fizz users can earn "snack bucks" with beverage purchases, which can be redeemed for future snack orders. The app is accessible on web, iOS, and Android platforms and is integrated with the event-planning app Partiful, enabling users to connect a Fizz cart directly to their event.
