A closing ceremony on Sunday will bring the Aichi-Nagoya edition of the Asian Games to its conclusion. The ceremony is scheduled to take place at Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium in Nagoya on 4 October, with proceedings set to begin at 6 PM local time, corresponding to 2.30 PM IST.
India's athletes gathered a combined 78 podium finishes across the competition — 18 gold, 25 silver, and 35 bronze. The tally falls short of the country's record haul of 107 medals — comprising 28 gold, 38 silver, and 41 bronze — recorded at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.
Shooter Neeru Dhanda was among India's prominent performers at the Games, claiming two gold medals and one silver. Her three medals came from the women's individual trap discipline, where she took gold; the mixed team trap event, where she partnered with Kynan Chenai to claim gold; and the women's team event, in which she finished with silver. Dhanda has been assigned flag-bearer duties for India's contingent at the closing ceremony. No decision on the men's flag-bearer has been announced.
Archer Kumkum Mohod also featured among India's contributors at the Games. The 17-year-old partnered with Ankita Bhakat and Kirti Sharma to claim a recurve team gold in the women's draw, then paired with Dhiraj Bommadevara to take silver in the mixed-team competition. In the women's individual recurve final, a shoot-off against South Korea's Oh Yejin determined the outcome, with the gold medal going to her opponent.
Lovlina Borgohain took gold in the women's 75kg boxing final, defeating Bao Ziyi of China by a unanimous 5-0 verdict. With that result, she joined MC Mary Kom as one of two women from India to have claimed an Asian Games boxing gold medal. Parveen Hooda and Ankush Panghal also contributed gold-medal performances, in the women's 65kg and men's 80kg bouts respectively.
In wrestling, Sanjeet Kalkal secured a gold medal in the men's 65kg freestyle category, overturning a deficit against Tajikistan's Abdulmazhid Kudiev to add to his tally of top-place finishes at the competition.
The women's hockey side claimed gold following a 1-0 victory over China in the final, a result that also secured a direct berth at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. India's men's cricket and hockey sides were also set to contest gold-medal finals later on Saturday, with the cricket team facing Pakistan and the hockey squad meeting Malaysia.
Television coverage of the closing ceremony is available to viewers in India through Sony Sports Network's broadcast channels. The ceremony can also be followed via Sony LIV, accessible through its dedicated app and website.
