India Turned Away 1.8 Billion Units of Renewable Electricity Amid Power Shortages
India turned away nearly 1.8 billion units of renewable electricity in July and August due to inadequate grid transmission infrastructure, even as the country faced record electricity demand and declining coal stocks. Data from the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) showed that 4.2% of total solar generation could not be absorbed by the grid. Coal continued to supply approximately two-thirds of India's electricity during the period, while solar generation grew 39% year-on-year and renewable generation excluding large hydro exceeded 100 billion units for the first time.
