India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio are scheduled to hold talks in Mumbai on October 20, 2026, to discuss strengthening the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. The MEA confirmed the meeting, which will coincide with Jaishankar hosting UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan for an official visit. Rubio's India trip, covering Mumbai and Jamnagar from October 17-22, also focuses on advancing energy cooperation between the two countries.

A meeting between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been scheduled for 20 October, with the Ministry of External Affairs noting that the two officials plan to explore avenues for strengthening ties during Rubio's visit to India. At a scheduled twice-weekly press interaction, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal fielded a question about whether the external affairs minister would hold talks with Rubio on the sidelines of a planned Mumbai visit, at which point the spokesperson noted that on 19–20 October 2026, the external affairs minister would receive UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Mumbai for an official bilateral engagement. The statement noted that bilateral discussions between the external affairs minister and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio were set for 20 October, with the minister also invited to attend the commemorations marking 250 years since American independence, in the capacity of Guest of Honour. Jaiswal noted that the encounter between Jaishankar and Rubio would give both delegations an opening to explore ways of strengthening the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. Speaking at a Bloomberg New Economy Forum panel discussion, envoy Sergio Gor indicated that Secretary Rubio's itinerary includes meetings with Indian government officials in Mumbai, adding that External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar was anticipated to be among those present. A planned visit to India by the Secretary of State is expected to advance discussions around energy cooperation, according to a State Department statement. His itinerary runs from October 17 through 22, taking him first to Samarkand in Uzbekistan before continuing on to two stops in India — Mumbai and Jamnagar.
