India Imposes 30 Percent Margin Cap on Non-Scheduled Cancer Drug Prices
The Indian government has announced a 30 percent margin cap on the maximum retail price of non-scheduled anti-cancer drugs. The policy, detailed by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, is expected to save cancer patients around 258.7 million USD per year. An expert committee will finalize the list of covered medicines, after which the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority will issue a formal notification. Price mark-ups on non-scheduled cancer drugs were found to average around 170 percent, with some cases exceeding 700 percent.
