India and Greece Strengthen Defence Ties with Focus on Industrial Collaboration and Military Exchanges

India and Greece have held high-level defence meetings in Athens, with Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh meeting senior Greek officials including the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff. Both sides agreed to expand defence cooperation through joint staff talks, technical-level exchanges, defence industrial collaboration, and maritime security cooperation.

A defence ministry statement released Friday noted that India and Greece had jointly affirmed the value of structured exchanges between their armed forces, pointing to technical-level engagement and shared industrial cooperation as priorities for the bilateral relationship. Rajesh Kumar Singh, in his capacity as Defence Secretary, held talks with General Dimitrios Choupis — head of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff — with the agenda spanning bilateral military ties and avenues for deepening strategic cooperation between the two countries. Both defence forces — India's and Greece's — were urged to deepen ties through technical-level exchanges, with the Ministry of Defence's statement pointing to defence industrial collaboration across shared areas of interest as a priority alongside those regular interactions. A Wednesday session in Athens brought Singh and Greece's Deputy Minister of National Defence, Athanasios Davakis, to the table, with the two sides reaching an understanding to broaden their defence ties across several areas; a ministry statement outlined that policy planning, joint staff talks, and defence industry collaboration would form the foundation of that expanded relationship, supplemented by capacity building, joint exercises, and regular bilateral exchanges. A separate engagement during the visit brought Singh together with Alexandra Papadopoulu, Greece's Permanent Deputy Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, with the two sides taking up questions of defence cooperation and the broader strategic relationship between their countries. Broader collaboration across naval security and defence industry lines was identified in a joint statement from the Ministry of Defence as a shared priority for India and Greece, with both countries placing particular weight on deepening their bilateral partnership in those areas. On Wednesday, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the Hellenic Armed Forces in Syntagma Square, Athens, marking the start of his official visit to Greece with a ceremony honouring those who died in service, according to a statement posted by the Ministry of Defence's Directorate of Public Relations.
