IIT Bombay Director Signs 18-Point Charter as Student Protest Enters New Phase Following Death of BTech Student
IIT Bombay Director Prof Shireesh Kedare signed an 18-point charter with protesting students late Sunday following a nearly three-hour meeting. The protest was triggered by the death of second-year BTech student Sahil Wakode, found dead in his hostel room on September 18. The charter demands an independent inquiry, action against a faculty member, mental health reforms, and broader institutional changes. Mumbai Police have registered an abetment-of-suicide case and invoked SC/ST Act provisions. The institute's Board of Governors is scheduled to meet Monday to discuss the matter further.
