Drew Rasmussen Dominates Yankees with Near No-Hitter in ALDS Game 1

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Drew Rasmussen held the New York Yankees hitless through 7⅔ innings, striking out 10 batters in a 1-0 Rays victory in ALDS Game 1. Jonathan Aranda's solo home run off Gerrit Cole in the third inning provided the only run. A baserunning error by Austin Wells ended the Yankees' lone late-game threat. Game 2 is scheduled for Monday at 8 p.m. in Tampa Bay.

Pitching into the eighth inning without surrendering a hit, Rasmussen kept New York's lineup off the board through 7⅔ frames on Saturday, and that performance proved enough as Cleveland edged the Yankees 1-0 to open the ALDS. Aranda's home run off Cole in the third inning put Tampa Bay on the board with the lone run that would prove enough to take the series opener. A two-out double in the eighth inning put New York on the scoreboard for Wells, though an attempt to extend the hit to three bases ended with him thrown out at third by a wide margin.
