Donald Trump Criticizes LeBron James Over National Anthem Behavior at 76ers Season Opener

President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social criticizing LeBron James for his behavior during the National Anthem at the Philadelphia 76ers' season opener. James was observed moving and appearing to practice a golf swing while teammates stood still during the anthem. Trump called the behavior disrespectful and called for an apology. The two have a history of public exchanges dating back to at least 2018.

A post on Trump's Truth Social account addressed NBA player LeBron James following the Philadelphia 76ers' home opener against the New York Knicks, a Tuesday-night contest held at Madison Square Garden on October 20. Drawing on 41 years of experience, James stepped onto a Philadelphia court for the first time after the 76ers added him to their lineup that evening. Following the game, Trump posted on Truth Social to say that James had behaved disrespectfully toward the country during the national anthem — a view he indicated he had held about the player from the beginning — and called on James to apologise to veterans and those who had served under the American flag.
