Coventry Beat Newcastle 4-1 to Climb Out of Relegation Zone

Coventry City recorded a 4-1 Premier League home win over Newcastle United at the CBS Arena, moving out of the relegation zone. Goals from Jack Rudoni, Sidiki Cherif, Ellis Simms, and Stephen Mfuni secured back-to-back victories for Frank Lampard's side. Newcastle, who conceded their second consecutive 4-1 away defeat, had Sven Botman pull one back before Coventry's substitutes sealed the result in the final stages.

Beating Newcastle 4-1 at home gave Frank Lampard's team back-to-back wins in the top flight, moving them out of the relegation zone. Botman's header drew Newcastle to within one at 2-1 around the 70th minute, though Simms restored a two-goal buffer for Coventry eleven minutes later, before Mfuni added a fourth to extend the visitors' lead further still. A penalty awarded in the sixth minute — after Hornicek brought down the recently signed Cherif inside the box — gave Rudoni the chance to put the visitors ahead, with the CBS Arena once again the setting for what would become a 4-1 defeat, matching the scoreline from their previous away outing. Trailing by a goal, Newcastle pressed higher up the pitch, though two clear-cut chances fell to Matias Fernandez-Pardo without reward — the more presentable of them a breakaway run at the keeper, stopped on the line by Bobby Thomas. Three minutes into the second half, Cherif put Coventry two goals ahead with a low, precise shot from outside the box — his first for the club at 19, arriving after the opposing side had wasted several chances of their own. Botman's team moved in front through a long-range effort, though Coventry drew level after Simms' shot clipped a defender on its way into the net.
