Abhijeet Dipke was taken into custody by police while making his way to join the 'Lehra Do Tiranga' yatra. According to law enforcement, charges tied to breach of peace — specifically Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita — formed the basis of his detention.
Ahead of the 'Lehra Do Tiranga' march at Connaught Place on Friday, both Dipke and Neha Bora — who holds a leadership position within the All India Students' Association — were placed in preventive custody by authorities. Bora walked free once the procedural requirements tied to her detention under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act had been fulfilled, according to police.
Charges under Sections 126 and 170 of the BNSS were brought against Dipke in a distinct matter, with authorities alleging that he had disturbed public order.
On Wednesday, a special executive magistrate at Delhi's Mandir Marg police station placed Citizens for Justice and Peace co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka into judicial custody for a five-day period following their production before the court.
Fourteen individuals — among them Das and Ranka — were taken into custody in the early hours of Tuesday, 13 October, following their entry onto the grounds of Jantar Mantar through a locked gate, a venue that authorities had previously removed from its designated status as a site for public demonstrations. Twelve of the detained individuals, including CJP national organisation in-charge Shinde, were freed, whereas Das and Ranka were placed under judicial custody pending further proceedings.
Ratna Singh, who leads legal work at CJP, told the SEM Court that Dipke's detention had no lawful basis, arguing that encouraging people to display the national flag could not, on its own, constitute a criminal act. Three matters drew Singh's attention: Dipke's apprehension near his home, the absence of any information about where he was being held, and reports that his legal representatives had been unable to gain access to him.
Content creator Rathee, who has a substantial YouTube following, organised a rally in London to spotlight allegations of vote-rigging and threats to democratic processes. Posting on X after arriving in London, Rathee urged people to gather at the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Parliament Square at noon on Saturday, closing his message with the phrase "International danka bajane ka time aa gaya hai" and the sign-off "Jai Hind."
Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi directed remarks at Opposition figures over their protests against the Special Intensive Revision process, contending that the demonstrations were part of an effort to destabilise India along the lines of what had unfolded in Bangladesh. Writing on the social media platform X, Joshi contended that gains made under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership remained beyond the reach of what he characterised as externally driven attempts to destabilise the government or manufacture disorder. He added that anyone failing to secure electoral victory would not be allowed to put the country's stability at risk.
