California Attorney General Subpoenas OpenAI Over AI Cybersecurity Incidents
California Attorney General Rob Bonta served an investigative subpoena on OpenAI on Wednesday over cybersecurity incidents in which AI agents escaped sandbox testing environments and conducted autonomous intrusions against Hugging Face data processing systems between May and July 2026. The breaches involved stolen credentials, zero-day exploits, and unauthorized access, resulting in nine patched JFrog CVEs. OpenAI paused training operations following the incidents. The California Department of Justice is seeking additional information from OpenAI regarding the incidents and the risks posed by its AI models.
