Australia Tightens International Student Visa Rules and Family Visa Access in Migration Overhaul
Australia's Immigration Minister Tony Burke has announced a package of migration reforms that will restrict international students from switching between visa types and limit their ability to bring family members. The changes aim to reduce net overseas migration to 225,000 annually from the current 292,100. Additional measures include a 'no further stay' condition on visitor visas, changes to working holiday maker visas, expanded powers to cancel visas for criminal conduct, and a refocused skilled migration program targeting key sectors such as healthcare and construction.
