Apple has rolled out iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, the latest software updates for the iPhone and iPad. Users can install the update at no cost across all supported devices by navigating to Settings, then General, followed by Software Update. Updates may take a few minutes to reach all devices owing to elevated server traffic on release day; iOS 27 supports every iPhone capable of running iOS 26, starting from the iPhone SE 2 and iPhone 11 onwards, while iPadOS 27 is compatible with the iPad Pro 2nd generation and newer, iPad Air 4th generation and newer, iPad mini 6th generation and newer, and the A16 iPad. The changes bring an upgraded iteration of Siri with enhanced capabilities and improved functionality. Following an update, registration for Siri AI may be required, with the enrolment process accessible through the Siri section within the Settings app. The update also brings a refreshed Liquid Glass interface, an expanded suite of Apple Intelligence capabilities, a dedicated Siri application, and an upgraded Siri AI. Accessing the new AI capabilities requires a device compatible with Apple Intelligence, namely the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any handset from the iPhone 16, 17, or 18 lineups. On the iPad side, Apple Intelligence supports M-series chips and the A17 Pro-equipped iPad mini. Siri AI and other Apple Intelligence tools are currently available at no cost, though the company has indicated that usage-based pricing could be introduced down the line. An updated version of Siri with expanded conversational capabilities is being made available across iPhone 16 models and later, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The assistant helps users locate needed information and accomplish tasks by drawing on personal context, in-app functionality, onscreen content recognition, and broad knowledge access; a redesigned voice experience delivers more natural-sounding audio with adjustable expressiveness and speed via on-device processing on iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro and later models; a standalone Siri app allows users to revisit or begin conversations, with private cross-device syncing through iCloud; Siri mode in Camera brings Visual Intelligence directly into the Camera interface, enabling queries and actions based on what is visible, such as dividing a bill or identifying nutritional details from a food image; and Write with Siri allows users to draft content from the ground up, revise existing text, or request feedback from virtually any text input field. Within Messages and Mail, Siri adapts its writing suggestions to reflect each contact relationship, drawing on vocabulary, expressions, and punctuation patterns from prior exchanges with that person. Apple Intelligence, available on iPhone 16 and later models as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, brings several new photo-editing capabilities: Spatial Reframing allows the camera perspective of an already-captured image to be adjusted after the fact; the Extend tool expands the borders of a photo with contextually generated fill, enabling horizon straightening, aspect ratio changes, or additional space around a subject; and Clean Up now handles the removal of larger objects with improved output quality, offering a Fast mode for minor touch-ups and a High Quality mode for more detailed work. Safari's Organize by Topic feature draws on Apple Intelligence to cluster open tabs by subject, while Notify Me allows the browser to monitor pages at intervals for changes such as pricing or stock status; Describe an Extension enables the creation of tailored browser extensions through plain-language input to alter a site's layout or presentation; the redesigned Image Playground applies an updated generative model to produce images across a broad range of styles, including photorealistic rendering, supports touch and natural-language editing, and can generate Lock Screen wallpapers and Contact Posters with personalised recommendations; and Describe a Shortcut allows users to build or refine automation shortcuts through natural-language prompts. Among the Home app updates, summarised activity notifications consolidate related alerts from multiple accessories into one, while HomeKit Secure Video recordings gain AI-generated video descriptions outlining clip content for eligible iCloud+ subscribers, and a new camera clip search feature allows those on qualifying iCloud+ plans to locate specific footage through the Home app or Spotlight; in Calendar, users can describe an event in plain language and have Apple Intelligence populate the time, location, invitees, and title automatically, Mail now offers contextual suggestions prompting users to act on email content such as retrieving directions to a booked restaurant, and the Phone app's Call Context feature recognises calls to certain businesses and draws relevant details — such as confirmation codes or reservation numbers — from across a user's apps. Accessibility Among the platform-wide updates are refinements to the Liquid Glass interface that enhance visual clarity, a Settings slider allowing users to adjust transparency from clear to tinted, faster app launches and AirDrop transfers, quicker photo loading in the Photos library, more relevant search results across Spotlight, Photos, and Mail, and a new Connectivity Assist feature that smooths handoffs between Wi-Fi and cellular networks. Among the other updates are improvements to iCloud Shared Albums within the Photos app, a Custom EQ option for AirPods, perimenopause and menopause tracking added to the Cycle Tracking feature in Health, and the ability to set separate volume levels for Alarms and Timers.
