Scott Tucker, who spent years as a legal executive at Meta, has been brought on by Apple to lead its litigation function, according to a report from a news outlet. A broader restructuring of the company's legal function, overseen by General Counsel Jennifer Newstead, provided the context for the hiring.
Responsibility for commercial and patent litigation on a worldwide basis, along with legal support for Apple's financial products, falls to Tucker through a position — vice president of global litigation and financial services — that the company established specifically for this appointment. A legal career that included a senior post at Morgan Stanley formed part of his professional background.
Under the new reporting arrangement, Grenier — who holds the role of vice president overseeing commercial and competition litigation — will direct her work upward to Tucker rather than to Newstead. Her position within the legal leadership structure of the general counsel's office is set to continue.
Andeer, a veteran of the company's legal division, is set to take on a broader remit that stretches across international legal affairs, child safety on digital platforms, cybersecurity, and cooperation with law enforcement — responsibilities that sit alongside the regulatory and product-focused work he already handles.
Neither Apple nor Meta offered any response when approached about the updates. Tucker's appointment places him on the same team as the executive who once oversaw his work at Meta.
Six years heading legal affairs at Meta preceded Newstead's arrival at Apple as general counsel, a transition that took effect in March. Her career ahead of joining Meta included postings in leadership capacities across three federal institutions — the State Department, the White House, and the Justice Department.
Two divisions at Apple — one handling legal matters, the other focused on government affairs — have been brought together under Newstead's oversight, a move that follows the exits of Kate Adams and Lisa Jackson from the company. Nate Gatten, who previously held an executive post at American Airlines, was brought on board as the company's vice president of government affairs, a role that places him under her direct oversight.
In his role as executive chairman, Cook has kept government relations among his active responsibilities. Among the matters occupying the attorneys are a federal antitrust action in the United States, a drawn-out dispute with Epic Games centred on App Store policies, and separate proceedings tied to privacy concerns and delays involving Siri.
A trade-secrets lawsuit brought by Apple against OpenAI remains active, with OpenAI having agreed, for the duration of that litigation, to refrain from drawing on the data Apple contends was taken without authorisation.
