Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Defeats Alexander Zverev to Reach Shanghai Masters Final

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina defeated Alexander Zverev 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in the Shanghai Masters semifinals on Saturday. Zverev, who secured the ATP year-end No. 1 ranking this season, cited fatigue and a minor ankle issue following the loss. Davidovich Fokina will face either Daniil Medvedev or Rafael Jodar in Sunday's final.

A backhand from Davidovich Fokina proved the turning point in the second set, with the Spaniard converting the break of Zverev's serve to take it 6-4 — a result that came after both men had largely held their own on serve throughout the match. Capitalising on his momentum, Davidovich Fokina broke Zverev's opening service game in the third set and held his own delivery to claim it 6-3, afterwards telling reporters that nerves had crept in during the early stages yet he had continued competing on every point throughout.
