X Corp. and SpaceXAI Withdraw Apple Antitrust Lawsuit Without Disclosing Settlement Terms

X Corp. and SpaceXAI have dropped their antitrust lawsuit against Apple without publicly disclosing any settlement terms. A judge has ordered the plaintiffs to submit any agreements with Apple for private court review. OpenAI, still named in a separate active lawsuit by the same plaintiffs, filed an emergency motion seeking an explanation for the dismissal. The original complaint alleged Apple engaged in conduct that favored OpenAI in the App Store and inhibited competition in the AI sector.

The antitrust lawsuit filed by X Corp. and SpaceXAI against Apple was dropped earlier this week, with no terms or agreement made public. The legal complaint alleged that Apple engaged in anti-competitive practices on behalf of OpenAI. The judge overseeing the case directed the plaintiffs to submit to the court, for confidential review, any agreement or set of agreements with Apple connected to the resolution of their claims against the company in the proceedings. The company filed an urgent court motion requesting that the opposing parties clarify the basis for their dismissal request. A separate lawsuit filed by the same plaintiffs against OpenAI continues to proceed through the courts. The lawsuit alleged that Apple's conduct prevented any artificial intelligence company other than OpenAI from achieving a top-ranked position within the App Store, framing this as a breach of antitrust law. The filing further contended that Apple had partnered with OpenAI, a company the complaint characterised as holding a dominant position in the generative AI chatbot sector and as having a vested interest in limiting competitive activity and technological advancement in the field.
