Vedanta Group chairman Anil Agarwal cited Samsung's growth trajectory as an illustration of how businesses can sustain expansion, urging companies to keep innovation and ambition central to their thinking — a message he delivered as the electronics firm projected quarterly operating profit of approximately $80 billion.
A screenshot posted by Agarwal on X drew wider attention to a Financial Times report projecting that Samsung's operating profit would reach roughly nine times its prior level, with demand for AI chips cited as the underlying driver. In a published message, he called on others to adopt the same work ethic he attributed to Samsung's growth.
Samsung posted an operating profit of approximately USD 80 billion — equivalent to roughly ₹8 lakh crore — in its most recent quarterly earnings report.
Agarwal walked through Samsung's corporate evolution — from its early days as a trading operation, through periods in textiles and food processing, and eventually into consumer electronics and premium memory chip production — while noting that the conglomerate's annual profit figures have been known to exceed the combined earnings of every listed company on India's stock exchanges. The history attached to it, he said, was worth understanding.
Founded initially as a trading company before branching into textiles and food processing, Samsung built its corporate identity through a sequence of industries that bore little resemblance to the technology-led routes taken by its North American peers. At a later stage, its reach extended into everyday consumer goods such as air conditioners and mobile handsets, before expanding further into the production of advanced memory semiconductors.
Agarwal added that corporations such as Samsung account for hundreds of thousands of jobs across Korea and other nations, India among them. He described Samsung as a company whose direction has long been shaped by its founding family, and used that observation to put forward the view that organisations benefit from maintaining momentum and flexibility even after reaching notable milestones — a perspective he offered as his own rather than an established principle.
Operating profit at Samsung for the three months through September was put at around $80 billion in a preliminary estimate, a figure roughly nine times what the company posted in the same quarter a year before.
Earnings guidance released by the electronics company placed its consolidated revenue target for the third quarter of 2026 at roughly 195 trillion Korean won — equivalent to around $145 billion — while the anticipated consolidated operating profit was set at approximately 107.4 trillion won, or close to $80 billion.
Consolidated revenue at Samsung climbed to 171.5 trillion won — roughly $128 billion — during the April-to-June 2026 period, a figure that represented a 28% increase over the prior quarter and stood as the highest the company had recorded. For that three-month period, the company's operating profit climbed to a new all-time high of 89.5 trillion won, equivalent to roughly $66.8 billion. Per-share profit across both common and preferred stock categories climbed 52%, landing at 10,849 won — the equivalent of roughly $8.10.
Ahead of its complete quarterly disclosure, Samsung released early estimates covering both profit and revenue. In preliminary figures, the company placed itself among those with no recorded precedent for a single quarter's operating profit crossing the 100-trillion-won threshold — equivalent to roughly $74.6 billion.
Forecasts indicate a fourth consecutive quarter of peak earnings may be on the way, as demand tied to artificial intelligence continues to strain memory-chip inventories and push prices higher. Chipmakers such as Samsung saw both their profits and share prices climb to new highs, driven by a surge in orders for the memory components that underpin AI-focused data centre infrastructure.
Valued at roughly $1.3 trillion, the company has seen its stock price climb to more than twice what it stood at when the year began. Detailed third-quarter figures from Samsung are due to be published on 29 October.
