US Military to Livestream Firing Squad Execution of Fort Hood Shooter Nidal Malik Hasan on December 3

The Trump administration has announced the December 3 firing squad execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, convicted for the 2009 Fort Hood shooting that killed 13 people, will be publicly livestreamed. It will be the US military's first firing squad execution since 1945 and first execution of any kind since 1961, reflecting the administration's broader push to resume federal capital punishment.

Plans to broadcast the scheduled December 3 military firing-squad execution of Nidal Malik Hasan as a live public stream were set out in an administration announcement. Pete Hegseth, the defense secretary, characterized the choice to air the execution as uncomplicated, saying it was meant to make plain the gravity of such actions. A guilty verdict handed down in 2013 placed responsibility on Hasan for the 2009 attack at Fort Hood, where gunfire took 13 lives and left another 32 people wounded. If carried out, the procedure would represent the first time a firing squad has been deployed by the US military since 1945 and the first military execution of any kind since 1961. The ruling fits into a wider effort under President Donald Trump to reinstate capital punishment at the federal level and to authorize additional methods of execution, including firing squads, as a way of carrying out death sentences more swiftly.
