Ukrainian Commanders Say Russian Mobilization of Up to 600,000 Troops Will Not Reverse Battlefield Losses
Ukrainian military commanders, led by 3rd Army Corps Commander General Andriy Biletskyi, have assessed that Russia's reported plan to mobilize between 400,000 and 600,000 additional troops will not improve Russian battlefield performance. Biletskyi stated that more conscripts will produce higher casualties given the drone- and sensor-driven nature of the current frontline. Ukrainian forces have advanced in the Lyman sector and into Luhansk oblast, while a Russian general was killed in a Ukrainian drone strike on September 12, 2026. The Institute for the Study of War reported that North Korean forces may be repositioned into Ukrainian territory to free up Russian troops for the Lyman area, marking a potential expansion of North Korea's role in the conflict.
