Shohei Ohtani Drops to Sixth in Dodgers Lineup for NLCS Game 3 Against Brewers

Shohei Ohtani will bat sixth in the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup for Game 3 of the NLCS against the Milwaukee Brewers — his lowest batting position since 2020. Despite dealing with right biceps and left knee injuries, Ohtani insisted he is healthy enough to play as the designated hitter. Manager Dave Roberts also moved Kyle Tucker to the cleanup spot, shifted Will Smith to seventh, and inserted Miguel Rojas in place of Max Muncy. Milwaukee leads the series 2-0, with Blake Snell set to start against Robert Gasser.

The sixth spot in the batting order last appeared on Ohtani's lineup card during his Angels tenure, a placement that dated back to the 2020 season. Speaking with reporters on Tuesday, Roberts noted he had considered holding Ohtani out of the Game 3 lineup against Milwaukee left-hander Robert Gasser, a move the designated hitter pushed back on by making clear he felt ready to take the field.
