Salesforce chief executive Marc Benioff addressed questions from investors about how artificial intelligence might reshape the enterprise software market, a topic that had been circulating for months. Technology shares were offloaded by market participants, and Salesforce stock fell in tandem with broader sector losses. Some industry observers projected that autonomous agents could render conventional roles redundant.
Quarterly figures placed the firm's total earnings at $11.35 billion, an 11% rise from the prior period. Annual growth in new order value reached its highest point in four years, forecasts improved, and employee turnover held close to historically low levels. Reservations picked up pace. The company's stock value climbed over 12% following the release of the earnings report.
In a television interview, Benioff argued that the so-called "SaaSpocalypse" narrative lacked merit and should be set aside, adding that frontier models depend on CRM technology rather than serving as a replacement for it. Instead, he said, they serve as a complementary addition to it.
Agentforce's annualised recurring revenue reached $1.5 billion, reflecting a 240% increase compared with the prior year. The combined revenue run rate for artificial intelligence and data products approached $4 billion, having grown more than threefold over the course of a single year. During the quarter, users logged 3.2 billion agentic work units, nearly double the volume recorded in the previous period.
Benioff identified the clients most likely to move away from Salesforce. Among its clients are nine of the top ten artificial intelligence firms, alongside Slack. Expenditure climbed 435% compared with the same period a year earlier.
Anthropic and a number of other frontier AI laboratories run their core operations on Salesforce and Slack. Through the Anthropic collaboration, Claudeforce was developed to embed Claude directly within Salesforce. Within established tools such as Slack, sales representatives are able to draft correspondence, retrieve relevant customer information, and record updates to data.
Benioff described the collaboration as bringing together two industry-leading platforms, one in AI and the other in customer relationship management. Anthropic's chief executive, Dario Amodei, characterised the partnership as yielding outcomes that exceed what either party could achieve independently.
Technology stocks declined earlier in the year after AI startups announced capabilities to automate customer service, outbound sales, and complex business workflows with reduced headcount requirements. During a February earnings call, Benioff remarked that any so-called "SaaS-pocalypse" would likely be countered by a "SaaS-quatch," given the continued and expanding adoption of SaaS platforms driven by improvements from AI agents, adding that the company had faced comparable concerns previously, per a news report.
Investors had reason to be cautious. Subscription-based licensing models faced pressure as autonomous agent capabilities expanded. The ability to set prices faced potential downward pressure. Workforce reductions at client organisations put subscription revenue at risk.
Salesforce reported results that reached an all-time high. Outstanding performance obligations were fulfilled ahead of schedule. Agentforce was identified as the primary factor behind several substantial transactions. Deutsche Telekom, FIFA, and the U.S. Army were among the organisations that broadened their pledges. Certain agreements now incorporate pay-per-use arrangements alongside conventional licensing structures.
Salesforce took an early position in Anthropic and recorded a $2.6 billion return on that holding in its most recent financial results. The firm describes its core operations as centred on data. The company's infrastructure stores the client data, operational processes, and organisational logic that AI systems require to function reliably within corporate environments. Lacking that information, personnel may fall out of compliance.
Headless 360 and Model Context Protocol broaden developer access, enabling verified data to be drawn into any interface or model. Benioff stated that the company views current conditions as an expanding opportunity rather than a position of constraint. Artificial intelligence has been found to enhance the performance of various products across a range of industries.
Customer support representatives handle tens of millions of queries each year. Adoption of Slackbot has been on the rise. A financial cooperative forecast a 30% decrease in running costs following the introduction of AI agents to handle IT support and related functions.
Certain areas display fluctuating performance. Revenue from integration and analytics licences encountered softer demand. Charging structures for AI products are shifting away from straightforward per-seat arrangements. Usage-based pricing models for AI agents shift how costs and behaviours interact within the system.
Turnover rates remain minimal. Duration terms lengthened. Reservations across key product lines grew twofold from one quarter to the next. Broadcasting analysts indicated that market influence could shift in favour of technology firms that investors had previously rated poorly. The volume of agentic work units approximately doubled.
Benioff outlined what he termed AI 3.0, positioning it as an interface layer that sits atop organisations' existing technology assets, including SAP systems, Microsoft platforms, and data lakes. Organisations could enhance the functionality of their existing platforms through integrated interfaces and expanded automation pipelines. Salesforce's quarterly financial data points to continued demand for the software layer, with AI agents driving higher CRM consumption rather than displacing it.
