Six gubernatorial appointments took effect on Monday under orders from President Droupadi Murmu, with the batch covering fresh placements for four leaders alongside the repositioning of two sitting governors into different states.
Four individuals — Dr Sudha Yadav, Dhal Singh Bisen, Braj Mohan Ram, and Dushyant Kumar Gautam — are taking up gubernatorial roles for the first time under the reshuffle, while Om Prakash Mathur and Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar are being moved from the states they currently oversee to fresh postings elsewhere.
Those named to constitutional posts carry backgrounds spanning party organisation, legislative work, and community-level engagement. Profile data on the six newly assigned or repositioned governors shows that three come from Scheduled Caste backgrounds, while two others hold OBC status. All four of the newly installed governors built their careers within the BJP's organisational structure, accumulating between 25 and 45 years of involvement across local, state, and national tiers of the party before receiving their appointments.
As part of the reshuffle, Mathur — who had been serving as Sikkim's Governor — was moved to the Kerala posting, with Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, the outgoing Kerala Governor, taking up the corresponding role in Tamil Nadu. Ram was placed in charge of Odisha, Dr Yadav was assigned to Karnataka, Bisen to Uttarakhand, and Gautam to Sikkim.
Dr Yadav's profile spans a record in public life, academic credentials, and political work within Haryana's OBC landscape, where she is identified with the Yadav community. Her husband, BSF Deputy Commandant Sukhbir Singh Yadav, lost his life during the Kargil War. His death marked the point at which she stepped into public affairs, eventually taking a seat in the Lok Sabha as the representative for Mahendragarh.
Her name appears on the roster of the BJP Parliamentary Board as one of its sitting members. Her academic credentials include a master's degree and a doctoral qualification, both in Chemistry, earned through study at IIT Roorkee. Her appointment to the National Commission for Backward Classes ran across a three-year span, from 2019 through to 2022.
Gautam, a Delhi-based leader who identifies with the Chamar community, carries close to five decades of organisational work within the RSS and BJP, with Scheduled Caste welfare as a central thread of his public record. Within the BJP, he has held two organisational posts — a national general secretary role and the presidency of the party's Scheduled Caste Morcha at the national level. His path in elected office took shape first through a seat on the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, with a later appointment to the Rajya Sabha marking the next stage of that public career.
Bisen, who is rooted in the Bhoyar Pawar community of Madhya Pradesh and carries an OBC background, steps into the role with a long record spanning both the legislature and public administration. His political record includes four terms in the state legislature and one in the lower house of parliament, with cabinet responsibility in Madhya Pradesh covering departments such as school education, forestry, transport, and mineral resources. Leadership of the Fourth State Finance Commission of Madhya Pradesh was among the responsibilities he took on. Trained in Ayurveda, Bisen holds a focused interest in how traditional Indian medical frameworks relate to contemporary clinical approaches.
Ram's background spans Jharkhand's farming districts and membership in the Dhobi community, while his public record draws on service across both houses of the legislature as well as work at the community level. Prior to the bifurcation of Bihar, he held a seat in the state legislature, and the Palamu constituency returned him to the Lok Sabha on three separate occasions — in the 1996, 1998, and 1999 general elections. His organisational roles have included heading the State Scheduled Caste Morcha and maintaining a long-standing connection with the Dhobi Mahasangh. Efforts to establish schools and other learning facilities in Chandwa have formed part of his broader work.
