Pakistan Set to Chair IMF and World Bank Boards in 2027 Amid Pending Loan Approval
Pakistan is set to chair the boards of governors of the IMF and World Bank Group in 2027, the first time since 1953, as formally announced during the 2026 WBG-IMF Annual Meetings in Bangkok. Simultaneously, Pakistan awaits IMF Executive Board approval for approximately $1.2 billion in loan disbursements under two ongoing lending programmes. Separately, the IMF has projected India's economy will grow at 7 per cent in 2026-27 and 2027-28, maintaining its position as the world's fastest-growing major economy.
