Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye Move to Operationalise Makkah Joint Defense Agreement
The military chiefs of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye met in Riyadh to discuss the mechanism, operational structure and terms of reference for implementing the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement, which was signed in August. The pact includes a collective defence clause similar to NATO's Article 5. Parliamentary ratification in Türkiye is pending, with parliament expected to take up the agreement in October. Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus indicated the agreement could eventually expand to include other Muslim-majority countries, including Iran.
