Only One Third of Britons Say They Would Fight for the UK, New Poll Finds
A new Ipsos poll has found that only 36 per cent of Britons say they would be willing to fight for the UK, while 48 per cent say they would not do so under any circumstances. The survey also reveals that while 51 per cent support increased defence spending, 44 per cent oppose the tax rises or public service cuts that may be required to fund it. Half of respondents favour a closer UK-EU defence partnership. The findings come as NATO commanders have warned of potential Russian military aggression, and UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting has linked military spending to the Russian threat to NATO allies.
