No. 8 Ole Miss Defeats No. 7 LSU 32-24 in Week 3 SEC Matchup

No. 8 Ole Miss defeated No. 7 LSU 32-24 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on September 19 in a Week 3 SEC matchup. The Rebels built a 24-7 halftime lead before holding off a second-half LSU comeback. A fourth-quarter touchdown run by quarterback Chambliss and a late interception by Jaylon Braxton secured the victory. Ole Miss next travels to face Florida on September 26.

The Rebels began the first half on the defensive side of the ball. After a Tigers punt, Ray leapt above two defenders to bring in a 36-yard catch. Constant pressure from the Rebel defensive line left the Tigers with no option but to surrender possession. Tight end Michael Smith had found open space with room to run, well placed to convert the down, while Chambliss was driven back more than ten yards. After a sack and a three-yard loss on the preceding two plays, Ray caught a pass on a post route and carried it into the end zone from 21 yards out, extending the Rebels' lead to 17-0 and notching his first touchdown with the squad. After a false start infraction pushed the Tigers to third and 10 at the Ole Miss 28-yard line, tight end Trey'Dez Green came through with a catch to secure the first down. Leavitt misfired on a pass to the end zone while off his feet, then converted a scramble for a first down, leaving the offence at first and goal from the two-yard line. He caught a pass for 12 yards to extend the drive, then gathered in another reception before going out of bounds to stop the clock. Ferrelli tackled Leavitt for a loss to force third-and-seven, yet Leavitt answered with a rushing score on the ground, pushing the advantage out to 24-14. Carneiro's 53-yard field goal attempt drifted wide right, returning the ball to LSU at their own 43-yard line. Cook hauled in a pass to advance Ole Miss into midfield territory, before a 20-yard loss on a Chambliss carry pushed the drive back following a stop by the LSU defence. Chambliss used a play-action fake toward Lindsey before carrying the ball into the end zone, giving the team a 30-24 lead. With the score at 32-24, the Rebels dropped to a knee and ran down the clock to preserve the win.
