Netflix Names Peter Rice as Chief Content Officer, Replacing Bela Bajaria

Netflix has named Peter Rice, a former senior Disney executive, as its new Chief Content Officer effective October 26. Rice replaces Bela Bajaria and will oversee all Netflix content including scripted and unscripted series, films, and live events. His previous roles include Chairman of Walt Disney Television and Head of Ceremonies and Content for the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Peter Rice took over the Chief Content Officer role at Netflix, with Bela Bajaria stepping down from that position. Her appointment to the post is set to begin on 26 October, with Rice bringing a background in senior leadership at Disney to the role. Responsibility for the full range of Netflix content — spanning scripted and unscripted series, feature films, and live events — will rest with him. Before stepping away from full-time work, Rice held dual leadership posts at Walt Disney Television and across the broader General Entertainment division of The Walt Disney Company. Dana Walden stepped into the role after his departure in June 2022. That July 2025 appointment placed him in the role overseeing ceremonies and content for the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games, with a statement from the organisation describing him as among the more capable large-scale operators working in entertainment. Ted Sarandos, Co-CEO of Netflix, described the appointee as someone whose grasp of the television and film landscape runs wide and whose ties with creative talent have been cultivated over an entire career spent drawing out the strongest possible work from the people he collaborates with, adding that an instinct for what makes stories connect with audiences sits at the centre of that track record. The incoming Chief Content Officer role at Netflix went to Rice, who noted in a statement that the platform had repeatedly demonstrated a readiness to back unconventional voices and untested concepts, adding that the opportunity to help bring a wider range of stories to audiences worldwide was one he looked forward to pursuing alongside the existing team.
