Netflix has released a promotional poster for its Narnia adaptation, The Magician's Nephew, with Greta Gerwig attached as both director and screenwriter. A trailer is scheduled for release the following day.
The promotional artwork features a sweeping silhouette of Aslan, his layered mane dissolving outward into a field of stars. At the centre of the composition, two riders mounted on a winged horse move through a wash of bold colour, referencing the journey undertaken by Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer across the magical worlds depicted in C. S. Lewis's novel. The tagline "A Universe Begins" anchors the design around Narnia's creation story, reflecting the central theme of Lewis's book.
The reveal drew responses from portions of the online fanbase, with some viewers commenting positively on the visual design and expressing anticipation ahead of the film's release.
Gerwig has spoken publicly about her personal connection to the source material, recounting that she encountered The Magician's Nephew as a child and was drawn to its central premise — a lion whose song brings the world of Narnia into existence — which she described as an improbable yet inventive idea. She said music had already planted the idea of building entire worlds from sound before any thought of directing films entered the picture. She described bringing that vision into existence through creative work as among the most meaningful distinctions of her career.
Gerwig said that for many young readers, C. S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia series opened a path toward curiosity about magic, worlds beyond ordinary sight, and the pull of exploration. She said the books conveyed the idea that the world held no shortage of places worth noticing, and that ordinary people could find themselves at the centre of stories far larger than their daily routines. She described the experience as one that had been open to all people, regardless of background, and said it had left a lasting effect on her.
The cast places David McKenna in the role of Digory Kirke, with Beatrice Campbell opposite him as Polly Plummer. Emma Mackey takes on the role of Jadis, Carey Mulligan portrays Mabel Kirke, Daniel Craig plays Uncle Andrew Ketterley, and Meryl Streep provides the voice of Aslan. Ciarán Hinds also appears in the film.
Discussing her creative influences, Gerwig told an interviewer that the musician David Bowie had been a transformative force in her life. She also referenced Paul McCartney, David Gilmour, Pete Townshend, and Jimmy Page and Robert Plant — the two figures at the heart of Led Zeppelin's creative partnership. Describing the band's music as something that conveyed a sense of reassurance, she characterised Narnia as a place constructed entirely from sound, and drew a comparison between Narnia's pull on the imagination and what rock and roll stirs emotionally.
IMAX preview screenings are scheduled for 10 February, followed by a wider worldwide release two days later. The film is set to premiere on Netflix on 2 April 2027. Netflix has not previously released a theatrical rollout of that scale for a streaming-era production.
