Manoj Bajpayee has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court over the unauthorised use of his likeness, voice, and personal identity. On 21 September 2026, the 57-year-old performer submitted a court petition requesting legal protection for his personal identity rights. Bajpayee has claimed that his image is being used without consent to endorse various products, and that AI technology is being deployed to reproduce his voice. Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav presided over a brief hearing in the matter, during which Bajpayee was represented by Senior Advocate Swathi Sukumar. A central matter under discussion involved claims that H2PG Designs Private Limited had used Bajpayee's images without authorisation, in a manner that allegedly conveyed his endorsement of their clothing line. The court also heard that a separate party was purportedly using artificial intelligence tools to replicate Bajpayee's voice. Bajpayee additionally voiced concern over AI chatbots that incorporate aspects of his persona, reinforcing his appeal for legal safeguards around his image and personal identity. Concerns about the Delhi High Court's authority to hear the matter were raised during the proceedings. Justice Kaurav questioned why Bajpayee had brought the matter before a Delhi court given that his permanent home is in Mumbai. Sukumar pointed out that several defendants are based in Delhi, which he argued gives the court grounds to hear the matter. The bench noted that uncontested matters lend themselves to expedient resolution, with Justice Kaurav observing that routing such cases to the Registrar would streamline proceedings and reduce the burden on the court. The judge directed Bajpayee's legal representative to prepare a compilation of interim and final orders drawn from prior cases addressing personality rights. The bench also directed legal representatives to submit examples of how other High Courts have dealt with comparable petitions, reflecting a methodical framework for resolving Bajpayee's grievances. The Delhi High Court has issued rulings extending personality rights protections to a range of public figures through its decisions. Among the well-known individuals involved are film performer Tabu, cricket player Yuvraj Singh, and parliamentary figure Shashi Tharoor, alongside others.
