Indeed's Q3 Labour Market Snapshot reveals that Ireland's employment market has stabilised, with unemployment holding at 5.0 percent and job postings returning to pre-pandemic levels. The report also highlights that nearly 15 percent of Irish job listings include AI-related terminology, the highest proportion among all European countries tracked by the platform, surpassing the UK, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and even the United States.

Indeed, a jobs and recruitment platform, has released its Labour Market Snapshot for Q3, examining how hiring activity and employment trends fared during the third quarter. Job postings across the Irish employment market have returned to levels consistent with the pre-pandemic figures recorded at the start of 2020, pointing to a period of stability in recent months. The jobless rate has held at 5.0 per cent, keeping Ireland's labour market near full employment, with workforce participation approaching record levels. Indeed's platform data points to Ireland's employment landscape having transitioned into a more stable phase, with Jack Kennedy, a senior economist at the company, noting that the heightened recruitment activity observed in the wake of the pandemic appears to have run its course. According to the data, most of the industries monitored remain below their pre-pandemic job posting benchmarks on Indeed, while 41 per cent have returned to or exceeded those earlier levels. Pharmacy and cleaning and sanitation sectors sit highest relative to their pre-pandemic benchmarks, whereas IT infrastructure, operations and support, and childcare remain the furthest below where they stood before February 2020. Kennedy noted that while overall hiring demand had levelled off, conditions varied across sectors, locations and job types, with artificial intelligence playing a growing role in the country's recruitment environment, a trend that Indeed's data showed was accelerating. Figures from Indeed show that nearly 15% of Irish job listings referenced artificial intelligence in their descriptions, a proportion exceeding that of any other European nation monitored by the platform. The figures stood at 9.7 per cent for the UK, 5.6 per cent for Germany, 5 per cent for Italy, and 3.6 per cent for the Netherlands. Elsewhere, the rate stood at 6.7 per cent in the United States, while Kennedy noted that artificial intelligence is reshaping the competencies employers seek and that Ireland occupies a leading position in that transition. Approximately 15 per cent of job advertisements in Ireland reference artificial intelligence, placing the country among the top-ranked nations globally by that measure. Demand for new capabilities and positions linked to artificial intelligence is expanding across industries well beyond the technology sector. Ensuring that workers — especially those at the start of their professional lives — can build the competencies that employers will require as labour markets evolve remains a key priority.
